Intro to Imaginariums

For Enlightened Science, an Imaginarium is a vibrant human habitat in which a group of people imagine and create thriving relationships - producing more culture, resources or energy than they consume. There are many of these groups all over the world and we are choosing to begin with the ones here, on the Big Island of Hawai'i. Transforming Subdivisions into Villages is our new Hawai'i film project for initiating dialog and village building within communities and governments.

Transforming Subdivisions into Villages

After ancient Hawaiians arrived to the Big Island, they began establishing regenerative human habitats (see Ahupua'a system). Through symbiotic relationships with each other and the earth, they evolved a thriving, positive-sum culture - in contrast to our modern negative-sum, import-dependent culture.

Amidst Hawai'i’s modern consumer culture, there are several groups of creative pioneers evolving regenerative human habitats. The Hawai'i Island Imaginariums project seeks to inspire and support our creative pioneers while also interconnecting them and bringing their story to the larger world.

In our Imaginarium process, participants engage their imagination through immersive activities and multimedia. We gather and share footage from around the island, while also creating individual films for our Imaginariums that culminate in a feature-length film designed for wider distribution.
