After ancient Hawaiians arrived to the Big Island, they began establishing regenerative human habitats (see Ahupua'a system). Through symbiotic relationships with each other and the earth, they evolved a thriving, positive-sum culture - in contrast to our modern negative-sum, import-dependent culture. Amidst Hawai'i’s modern consumer culture, there are several groups of creative pioneers evolving regenerative human habitats. The Hawai'i Island Imaginariums project seeks to inspire and support our creative pioneers while also interconnecting them and bringing their story to the larger world.
In our Imaginarium process, participants engage their imagination through immersive activities and multimedia. We gather and share footage from around the island, while also creating individual films for our Imaginariums that culminate in a feature-length film designed for wider distribution.
